The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)

Ever have an issue with your major credit card company, and didn’t know where to turn?

Back in June, I had an issue with one of my credit cards, Capital One. This isn’t my way to bash Capital One. I had an issue with them, and I had to call in twice. Both times I waited more than 30 minutes to speak to an actual person, and both times I didn’t get any results. It’s as simple as that.

I decided to file 2 complaints: one with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), and one with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Within 2 days I got a response from Capital One. The first was to BBB. They stated this was a duplicate case, and they’d work with the CFPB on my case.

Result: Got a response from Capital One that they were working on it.

After a couple weeks, I received a call from the Capital One! She stated she was the case investigator on this, and got my side of the story. She actively listened to my complaint, and said she’d work on the result that I wanted. If I had any more questions or concerns for her, I could contact her directly regarding my case.

Approximately two weeks after that call, I received the documents that I’ve been wanting in the mail from Capital One. Then I received a notification from CFPB that my case had been resolved.

If you have a valid issue with your credit card company, then I highly recommend filing a complaint with the CFPB. They’re a big help.
